weekend in the Catskills

The garden festival was a success. Lots of food

 flowers

fresh produce

 kids

kids with kids

 music

and more. (See here.)

In the spirit of things, I oh so artfully displayed gardening books,

and planted violas in milk glass containers.

 Seed bombs made an appearance.

They are gumball size clumps of soil mixed with clay, earthworm castings and seeds, created for throw and grow ease. Seed bombs originated with urban guerilla gardeners to be used on empty lots. (More on guerilla gardening here.)

I have another flower thing to show you, but I'll save it for later in the week.
I hope you had a good weekend.

Jen

  1. Oh, you mean this last weekend in the Catskills and not this is the last weekend in the Catskills. Right? At first, I thought you were closing up shop but I didn't get the carefree attitude and so figured I was missing something. Dur, as usual yes, I was.

Anyway, your last weekend in the Catskills looks like it was a good one Jen.

  2. Rubye Jack--Now I'm confused! Just removed the word "last"--it does sound kind of final, especially in my casual incomplete, uncapitalized title sentence...

  4. It's good time to do seeding and plant some pretty flowers in warm sunshine here, too. I'm glad to hear the successful festival in Catshill. Your photos prove it!

  5. Hello Jen:
This really does look to have been great fun. We love the way in which you prepared your store for the occasion in such an imaginative way. As for the 'seed bombs', what a truly splendid and original idea. We do hope that you did well.

    1. It was a nice weekend for sales, but what was especially nice was having so many people in town. The first time since the flood that it hasn't felt depressed.

  7. Oh what a happy event, and I do like the sound of those seed bombs: I could sit on a sunny terrace all day lobbing them about the place.

  9. great pics. I'd love to have a garden, but that's not going to happen any time soon. looks like I might have a balcony again soon. I doubt that the seed bombs would work for it, tho ;)

  12. What a fun time and your shop looks beautiful! My boys love seed bombs. They spent last night guerilla camping. It got pretty cold, but they stuck it out.
