be cool

red and green, hot and cool

I've added ice cream to the stay cool repertoire:

Orange Italian ice (bonus points: it last a long time)

Lemon ice cream (bonus points: local creamery and vitamin c)

Vanilla ice cream with peanut butter mixed in (bonus points: calcium and protein)

All those bonus points negate calories and sugar, right?
I mean they're practically healthy.

Also, a big bowl of fruit salad every day:
watermelon, peaches, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries.

Hope you find ways to stay cool this weekend.

Jen

  1. How good looking are your sons? Tres.

Every day I say I'm acclimated to the heat and humidity and them I stay outside for 5 minutes and I realize I'm lying to myself. Again.

2 more days they tell me.

Why did I ever plant anything in pots?

    1. I finally moved all my pots (except one that's too heavy) into shade near the hose until it cools off if ever...

  3. I'm in agreement, very handsome young men those two. Your fruit salad balances out your ice cream so not to worry. I'd like to be under that waterfall.

    2. You give me too much credit. I am by no stretch of the imagination a nutritionist, not a clue. But thank you, I'll take the plaque :) Which one is getting married? I'm so wishing I had daughters...

    3. Hey! I'm relying on you and your fruit balancing out ice cream theory. Don't make me feel guilty. Red shirt is getting married.

    1. The one in the red shirt. I need to get a recent picture of all 3 boys--our party would have been the perfect time, but I didn't take any pictures...

In the summer I could live on fruit, cottage cheese and Greek salads. I'm new to ice cream addiction. Cookies have always been my sweet thing.

    1. I guess I can't complaint about heat and humidity to someone who lives in the south. It's really been unusual for us though. Have a good weekend.

  6. You have three gorgeous sons! How wonderful!
My summer recipe for survival is tamato (tomato curry, tomato juice, tomato salad...), water melon, sōmen (cool thin noodle), taking shower..
    I love ice cream too.

    1. Tomato curry sounds delicious! my favorite sandwich these days is a piece of toasted whole grain bread with sharp cheddar cheese, avocado, a thick slice of tomato, and lots of alfalfa sprout. I don't know why I'm writing about food all of a sudden.

Lots of watermelon and showers too.

Your sons' shirts, too. They have different characters, I suppose referring to mines.

    1. That reminds me of a Swedish book that I used to read to my children--Peter in Blueberry Land--it had wonderful illustrations. I wish I could try Norwegian strawberries. I am wondering if they are in any of your illustrations which I love so much.

  10. Love your new header photo. You gotta love a cat that takes the time to smell the roses.

Hard to be cool in this heat but ice cream is a great start.

  17. What handsome sons! Love the idea of ice cream and peanut butter... i happen to have both on hand (a rare leftover from visitors, i usually never buy ice cream by the carton.) There was shave ice available at the farmers market last weekend, good to know for when (if) we ever get a heat wave here!
