Today I went to Brimfield (largest outdoor antique show in New England--thousands of dealers and yes my feet hurt, as does my head). I'll share more next week, but for now I want to know:
Are these the coolest things ever?
Cabinets from a sandpaper factory. With soapstone tops.
Original paint and hardware.
Wouldn't they be great kitchen cabinets in a cottage or farmhouse?
They were pulled right out of the factory. There's still stuff in the drawers.
You could put them back to back to form an island.
Those colors.
I'm so in love.
Or is it just infatuation---a summer fling?
Or is it just infatuation---a summer fling?
You should have gotten them to store your paints and other art supplies in.
ReplyDeleteThat would be awesome! No way I could move them or fit them in my car though, and they were probably way too expensive. They'll probably show up in Country Living.
DeleteDid you buy one, two, all? I wouldn't blame you, however it would be hard to choose which one. What kind of "stuff" is in the drawers? Is that a Botero in the first picture, I love him! Do I sound like an annoying 3 year old? Can you tell how excited I am? More pictures pleeeeeease!
ReplyDeleteI didn't buy any! Too big and heavy for any use I have for them. They would be so great in an old country cottage though.
DeleteI'm not familiar with Botero-I looked him up--very cool and certainly a recognizable style. I doubt these were his. This dealer had big canvases litke that made up to divide off his area (like other people do tents). They reminded me of old circus pictures. He had some amazing stuff from Florida.
More pictures soon--I didn't take nearly enough--next time.
Stuff in drawers--some test tubes and other glass items. I thought they were from a science lab, because of that and the soapstone.
DeleteYou always find some interesting event and antique.
ReplyDeleteThere was shower and later we could see some fireworks this evening.
I look forward to hear from you.
Going to this made me miss the auctions I used to go to all the time.
DeleteWas there a holiday or special occasion for the fireworks?
It was a summer event held on the ground of University near my house.
DeleteI have always wanted to go to Brimfield.
ReplyDeleteNow I can be there, thanks to you.
Amnd yes those are the coolest thing on the planet.
I want one. I'll be willing to sacrifice my couch for space.

It was less overwheming than I expected, though July is the least busy and I went later in the week which is quieter.
DeleteThey would be perfect for SBC, but you'd miss your couch.
I think they're just about the coolest thing, yes. I'm on the hunt for interesting pieces for my kitchen. While I'm not sure those are a good fit for me, I can see them being perfect for someone. So unusual.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Brimfield. Would love to go sometime.
The colors are probably a bit much for an urban cottage--great for a beach cottage though. Brimfield was not as daunting as I expected though I went at the least busy time. It was my first time--I won't be a regular, but will go back. I'll write more about it soon.
Deleteno, you're right. these are fabulous!!!
ReplyDeletefunny how out of the 10,,00 things I saw, they are the ones that got me excited...
DeleteSo pretty... Wonder who thought to paint these in such a variety of colors? How were the used? Bases for lab workers experimenting with abrasives and adhesives???? You have piqued my curiosity... I am off to find out how sandpaper is made! Oh, the antique market sounds wonderful... More, please!
ReplyDeleteIsn't in interesting--I wonder about the colors too. I was thinking that the cabinets are the perfect mix of cottage and industrial styles--kind of a rare combo. The soapstone is covered in scratches.
DeleteThe dealer said they were from the Norton sandpaper factory. I found Norton Abrasives online. Maybe they tore down an old building?
Hello Jen,
ReplyDeletewhat a treat to see all those great things for sale.. I would have been in my element.
I wondered if you have seen my last post.! you will be surprised.
nice post.
happy weekend.

Val--the furniture you painted is charming! And you live in paradise.
ReplyDeleteHello Jen, Sometimes it is fun to see fantastic and unusual things like these cabinets, at the same time realizing that "at this moment" they cannot be accommodated. There is actually a sense of relief that we don't have to figure out how to get them home, to repair them, make a place for them, and most important, explain to certain others why we need them.
