I went to an auction

I know, I'm closing the store and have oodles of things to sell, and shouldn't be buying. Problem is, I love auctions, they've become part of my life. So I told myself I would only buy small things I could sell in the Etsy store.

These aren't small, are they? What is it with me and rocking animals? (Remember this?) I can't resist them. And the little trike just stole my heart.

A Roseville basket.

A pretty painting of pansies.

A sweet frame with a music staff and wheat sheaf on it.

Digression:

Beacon Hill window boxes, from last weekend's day in Boston.

I've been toying with keeping the painting, because it's so sweet, and pansies, and so forth. But then I look at my flowers and think, why bother? The real thing is so much better.

Tomorrow I'm off to the Catskills for almost a week.
If you send me your address, I'll mail you a postcard.

xo,
Jen

    1. Hi Anne,

I am guessing that the rocking horse in 1940's or 50's and the trike might even be a little earlier, but I don't know!

  3. Of course I love the Roseville. This one is really unique. Thank you for the book. I'm in the midst of reading it now. I would have written but have no internet connection and so am only online for a few minutes a day at the library. Hopefully, this will not be for long. Have a good Catskills week and thank god for your decent weather. We're at 105 today. ha.

  5. Oh, keep the pansies painting. You'll enjoy it in the winter. Looks like it's dimmed with nicotine from a long ago smoker. I used a Q-tip with a bit of water and hand soap on an old painting in a corner just to see. When the Q-tip came away brown, I looked up on the Internet how to actually clean it. Don't recall now how I did it, but it came out of my amateur cleaning much brighter.

Have a good trip. We don't need postcards, just your blog thoughts.

    1. It does need a cleaning--but then I really will fall in love with it. You can have postcards AND blog thoughts if you want. Of course that might be too much...

  7. The little trike is absolutely charming, Jen. You must never sell it, but make cakes for all the small children so that they will come around and ride it picturesquely.

    1. Oh Mise, I love that image. Two very small and charming girls live across from me--I'll see if I can entice them.

I see that I did not clean the pollen off my deck before taking the picture. If I am dismissed from blogotopia, will you write me a letter of support for reinstatement?

    1. The horse would look perfect on your shop porch. I would give it to you if I could, just to see it there.

  9. That trike IS adorable! (I guess if its too big for Etsy you'll just have to keep it for yourself... oh darn...) Those window boxes made me swoon, esp the one with the little conifers. So classy.. Have a great week in the mountains...!
