Catskill weekend, looking forward

Now that the store is closed this will be the first Catskill weekend in more than two years that I have free time during the day. One thing I won't be doing is cooking. World's ugliest kitchen has been demolished. That's okay--all l need is a coffeepot (and coffee to put in it).

Of course food plays an important part in my plans. I look forward to a Saturday morning waffle at the Pakatakan Farmers Market. It's the last market of the season so I will stock up on pesto, apples, cheeses, and more. I want to prowl around Andes and have lunch at Buttercup, a new restaurant. Take a glorious rollling hills/red barns/autumn leaves drive to The Bibliobarn via Bovina so I can get something delicious from Two Old Tarts. I might even check out the travelling exhibition from The Eight Track Museum that opens Saturday. (Do you remember eight tracks?)

And you know I'll be spending time here. Maybe I'll see a bear.

Hope you have a lovely autumn weekend. (Or spring if you are on the other side of the world.)

Jen

  1. You can have hilarious foods without kitchen there! You can find out something interesting around you, like Eight truck museum. The first album I bought when I was teenager was "A Hard Day's Night" by The Beatles.

    1. I am looking forward to an excuse to eat out. :)

I don't remember my first album. I do remember loving Rubber Soul, which my older brother got. Still think Norwegian Wood is a great song (and Murakami book).

  3. Love the bear photos. We're getting a stealth cam tomorrow. Jay's Brittany Pepper rolled in bear poop while I was picking apples today. Even shampooed, he smells -- and insists on sleeping in the bedroom. Wish I could visit Two Old Tarts. I realized earlier that you reply to my comments. They don't come into my emails, so I never realized. Guess I'll backtrack. Your cat collage arrived today - love it.

    1. Stealth cam--great idea! Why do dogs like the smelly stuff!

I go back and forth replying to comments on the blog or by email (or occasionally not at all, for no good reason other than lack of time). Comments show up in my email and some I can reply to via email. Yours show up without your email address, so they go into the spam box and I can't reply. There's a way you can change that on your blogger notifications or profile or something.

  4. All right, I've read most of your replies to my comments. Thank you for your wit. I've also reviewed a lot of your blogs. It finally dawned on me why your flower arrangement photos are so beautiful. You have a flare for arranging flowers. But your nature photos are also beautiful. True talent.

    1. You are kind, but I do not have a talent for arranging flowers! The last Flowers in the House is the only time I'll take credit for that. The pictures look good because the subjects do. :) Same with nature photos.

p.s. My dilettante self does not need encouragement.

    1. I have not missed it for one minute. However, going to the building and seeing it, going in to pick up the last few things, may bring a pang or two. I am pretty good, probably too good, at not looking back.

  6. You make living in the Catskills very appealing.Your recent posts without the shop are great as well! I love your Neruda post.
They've already demolished your kitchen? Wow.

  8. Hello Jen, Odd that a farmer's market is closing so early. The latter part of October usually features such glorious weather for Fall excursions, and with an Indian Summer the season can easily extend into November. I would look for other farm markets in the area, and if it is a bit of a drive, isn't that the whole point?

  12. Sounds like the perfect place to be in the Fall. An eight track museum? There are some left? I thought they went the way of the dinosaur!
