here and there

I came to New Mexico because I wanted to see new landscapes. Different colors, textures, light. Sometimes the Northeast feels so crowded and insular, and come November, dark and cold. I've been dreading winter.

Tomorrow I will go home and enjoy the last weeks of autumn. I'll try to be positive and look forward to the good parts of winter--the warm and cozy books, fires, hot chocolate, snow days ones. I will think back on pink hills and green chili enchiladas and be grateful.

  1. H-m-m. I was in Boston once in January for a hearing and found walking about rather bracing. It's dark here in the northwest in winter, too. Good for driving, not having the sun in one's eyes. Also, you can't see the dirt on your windows so much. Those are my positives.

    1. I like your attitude! Winter darkness bothers me more than snow and ice.

  3. It is certainly a healthy thing. The change og scenery from time to time.
I hope you'll have an enjoyable late autumn at home.
    Stay positive : )

    1. Also getting away from my routines is good. Makes me re-examine them. For a minute or two, anyway.

  4. Mmmmmmm. Green chile enchiladas!! Maybe you could make those some dark and frosty Sunday and wash them down with some Mexican hot chocolate?
It took years in the northeast to get used to so much vegetation...so many trees! I miss those unobstructed views of the southwest. It'll be warm when you get back..until the end of October.

    1. I do think longingly of (northern) California at times. I love the way it gets hot in the day and drops 30-40 degrees at night. Same in NM. We need more Mex/SW food in Boston. Taco trucks.

  5. Your memories will be more vivid later on, I guess. I'm not so frequent traveler, though some of memories are so consolable with their colours and fragrances.
