the wedding

Jason and Alexandra got married on Saturday.
It was an amazing, happy day.
Beautiful, touching and fun.

Before the ceremony I went to the bride's family apartment where she and the bridesmaids got ready. As the mother of three boys it was quite a treat for me to hang out with the girls. There was lots of makeup and pretty shoes. Her parents and grandmother took it all in with me, a bridesmaid's baby made an appearance, there was good pizza and much love.

We went into Central Park,
across the street from where she grew up, for pictures.
There was a brief shower just as we were leaving for the ceremony.
It's good to know that bridesmaid's bouquets can double as umbrellas.

Closeup of the bride's bouquet taken at the reception;
still looking good after a very full day.
The flowers were done by Fleurish NYC.

My son is a happy man.

They put so much effort into planning the wedding. Everything was personal and meaningful. I don't have pictures of the ceremony, which was at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, a stunning venue with walls of windows overlooking Manhattan, but when I get some I'll show you. Their vows brought both tears and laughter.

The reception was a 13-course dinner at a Chinese banquet hall in Queens, which was great fun. The band played lots of blues and Motown ( my kind of music) and everyone had a wonderful time.

The cakes were made by Molly's Cupcakes. The round one was for the traditional cake cutting ceremony, and then there were three different flavor combination sheet cakes for the guests, a brilliant idea of the bride, who tried every cupcake store in the city before deciding Molly's was the best. They were delicious!

Closeup of some of the decorative flowers.
They are unique and lovely, both elegant and whimsical,
which also describes the wedding and the couple.

  1. Oh Jen - already!
This makes me happy. The bride looks happy, and beautiful, your son looks happy, and so cute, and the cakes are marvelous, and the idea of the black bridesmaid dresses in contrast to the white of the bride. I truly do so much love it all!!!
Now, I guess I have to go see what Instagram is all about. High time. :)

    1. So far, the only thing I really like about my new phonethatisn'tablackerry is it has a great camera and I can use instagram, which is fun, though addicting.

They are happy. Thank you for your kind words.

  6. Did you take that photo of the Bride with her Maids? It's a winner!!!
Flowers are lovely. Is the arrangement real in the reception pic? If so, what are those flowers? Congratulations, Jen. Now, about YOUR flowers.

    1. Hi Shelley, I did--I caught a moment. Great subjects too.
Did you see the bouquet pix on instagram? All flowers shown are real--the ones with the cake are branches of mock orange and I forget the other, but can find out. They framed the podium at the ceremony and then we took them to the reception. I'm going to add a credit to the florist in my post.

  7. Hello Jen, Thanks for letting us share your wonderful day. Since the banquet was at a Chinese hall, I hope you told the happy couple, "zao sheng gui zi."

    1. I'm sure somebody said it (I'm trusting that it doesn't mean "your teeth are green" or some such) !

    2. Hi again, Basically, that phrase amounts to "hurry up with those grandchildren!" A very Chinese attitude and philosophy.

  9. I love the cake, the flowers and her dress . . . and the smiles on their faces too.

I have boys too and I understand about hanging out with the girls sometimes. I adore when I get to spend a day with their girlfriends and do girly things. :)

Being close, in a virtual sense, to the MOG makes it all very personal to me.

I love that they're so happy, I love that it made you so happy and I'm grateful you share it all with us.

    That was pretty gushy.
