sweet peas, roses, ranunculus, freesia, jasmine...

We have two feet of snow on the ground, and no signs of spring,
so I went to Bow Street Flowers,
to see Shelley, and the bunnies, and for flowers.

I've written about Bow Street before--
you can see pictures of the store here and here.
It's like walking into a storybook.

I put the flowers in a low vase
so I can enjoy them when I am reading.

I look up from my book and see this.

 Sometimes I close the book
and just gaze at the flowers.

  1. worth closing a book for. I just closed "The Knitting Circle" yesterday. What a perfect read. Thank you again.

Now if I had some of Shelly's flowers to gaze on...or another good book.

  3. The flowers look even prettier in your house than in the shop. These photos are so good!

  4. I do the same thing. Read and look at the flowers, then read again. The good life.

  5. Hello Jen:

What a terrible winter you have been having and, apparently, it goes on. A friend of ours arrived from America last night and has been telling us of the dreadful conditions and such low temperatures.

Your flowers must be a most welcome sight.

    1. Spring, even signs of spring, will be especially sweet this year.

  6. I could almost smell the sweet peas. Our pussy willows are budding. When it stops snowing here and warms up, I'll pick some. May have to go buy some hair spray to set them.

    1. I haven't seen any buds--I must not be looking closely enough. You have to have worse winters in Idaho, don't you? Never hear of the hairspray trick.

  9. Amazing how flowers lift the spirits isnt it Jen? Our kitchen windowsill is full of daffodils at the moment, I love their cheery little blooms. Some are cut flowers and others are in pots that I bought cheaply for £1 and will plant in the garden when their blooms are finished.

  10. Your pictures show the height of your point of view and I can feel how you gaze the flowers time to time while your reading. :)

  11. Pretty in pink! How could you not want to look at these lovelies? Am regretting NOT bringing home that beautiful bouquet of pink roses I spied while grocery shopping today. What was I thinking? Stay swarm and cozy...and enjoy the flowers!

  15. Thank you for all your comments. I realized I didn't put in the names of the flowers, and they (the names) are pretty to look at too (like a dream of spring):

sweet pea, rose, ranunculus, jasmine, freesia, anemone

  16. Wow, those flowers are so gorgeous. Especially with the color of your wall, it makes them stand out. The pink is so vibrant that it even lifted up my spirits by looking at these photos, I can just imagine how you feel after your gaze meets their beauty while reading. Mmm, how beautiful.
