Princess Bride or Bitches Brew?
I've been lying low, nursing a nasty cold , trying new things. Who knew I could spend hours on the internets looking at nail polish? As an established lover of the color green why have I never worn it on my nails?
It's been days of tomato soup and tangelos, The Princess Bride, my good luck scarf, and the comfort food equivalent of mysteries, the Bruno, Chief of Police series, wherein Chief Bruno Courreges takes good care of his small town in the Dordogne region of France. He teaches rugby to the local children, cooks memorable meals for the women in his life, and still finds time to catch criminals.
Winter is not officially over, so I won't complain about the falling snow. However, the camera on my Blackberry is no longer working. I didn't use it much, because, well, it's a Blackberry, but I think I'm finally going to join the rest of the world and buy that other phone, mostly so I can play Instagram with my internet friends. There is now a book about design bloggers. How long will it be until we see it pictured on a design blog? (Wait! It already is.) And so on...
I'm more interested in nail polish colors. Trying to justify this mini-obsession, I tell myself I view them with a painter's eye. Like looking at paint chips, I am tempted to buy by name. California Coral. Bitches Brew. Aruba Blue. But most of the names are awful. Coat Azure. Bouncer, Its Me. Saturday Disco Fever. Perhaps it's my calling to create seductive, literary names for nail polish. I'll get back to you on that. Here's the real Bitches Brew. And a peek at The Princess Bride:

I went to a phase last summer where I was wearing a kind of sky blue polish all the time and I recall seeing some beautiful green nails. If I ever start working again, I'm going to try the green.
ReplyDeleteIt seems a lot of the design blogs have that beautiful white background like you have here and I've been thinking for awhile about adopting it myself because of the clean clear crispness.
I've always looked at Blackberry's as being more sophisticated and now you're going to give it up for Instagram? Ah well, there goes another one. jk
I like my Blackberry because it's easy to check email, and it doesn't have all those distractions of the other phone. The camera seems to be working again so there's hope for me yet, Rubye Jack.
DeleteHi Jen, The worst thing about those colors is thinking how much money the people who make them up probably earn for doing so.
ReplyDeleteSorry you are not feeling well. Get some rest and get well soon.

Who are those people? How do they get their jobs? I wonder that every time I go to a paint store.
DeleteThe first picture is so lovely :)
ReplyDeleteGreetings
Thanks, Ela!
DeleteIt's interesting I've never heard of any of those design bloggers. I think there are an infinite number of parallel universes when it comes to design blogs. Every now and then I fall through a wormhole and find one of those universes where the blogs and commenters are all aliens. And I'll bet they're wearing Bitch's Brew nail polish!
ReplyDeleteLove your parallel universes observation. (and BB comment)
DeleteI thought you were going to point out the great divide between Robin Wright in The Princess Bride and House Of Cards!
ReplyDeleteThe title would have worked either way.
Glad you are warm and cosy and eating that cure all, tomato soup.
Just finished "Tell The Wolves I'm Home" by Carol Rifka Brunt.
Liked it sooooo much better that "The Goldfinch".

Oh Jane, that would have been so clever of me. I haven't watched HOC, but read enough to know what you're talking about. Too funny!
DeleteWill check out that book.
Thank God! I thought by your title your blog was going to address the dilemma of possible themes for your son's wedding. Honest!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, I didn't realize what a provocative title it would be! Their wedding will be pretty eclectic--no themes or color schemes, except a little bit around the Chinese banquet hall reception.
Deleteoh, a new crime novel series. thanks for pointing me to it. and I hope you feel better soon xoxo
ReplyDeleteFor me, it falls into the Donna Leon/Commissario Brunetti, Louise Penney/Chief Inspector Gamache school of reading. Hope you like it.
Deletecan't remember the last time that i wore nail polish. i like how you view them as paint chips, and like you i'm totally sold on a good name ;)
ReplyDeleteI wear it maybe three times a year. It always chips after two days. But I'm thinking about trying again, just for fun.
DeleteI'm old school, stick to reds and ballerina pink...ugh, did I just say ballerina pink, actually I think it's called Princess Di, double ugh.I too have had the nastiest cold, couldn't sleep until I discovered Alka Seltzer Plus Day Night medication, the night is dreamy. I love love love The Princess Bride, seen it about a million times and never get tired, Inigo Montoya is Mandy Patinkin's greatest invention, and he's had plenty, not to mention Miracle Max..and Robin Wright was perfect casting, couldn't look more like a princess, Oh I can go on and on. Is this a comment or a book?
ReplyDeleteThis last time I was brave and went with sky blue. Let me tell you sky blue belongs in the sky not on my pail pail skin! I hope you're feeling better soon. Take care.
ReplyDeleteFunny! Maybe dark blue?
DeleteI rarely use nail polish. When i go out to town i do. But not worth it here in the country.. messing with plants and so on.
ReplyDeleteHope that you get better soon.. sounds like your book is interesting
Is the painting , painted with nail polish.. pretty cool.
get well soon.
val x
Nope, plain old paints. Fun idea!
DeleteJen...hope you are feeling better. I have been away from Blogland for a spell. Love the painting. I always think these blogs need a "like" button ...your painting would receive an immediate hit! Not keen on green nail polish. Bestie had hers polished green last week...had a bit of "I just worked in the yard and haven't washed my hands look!" ;-) My favorite is OPI Cajun Shrimp or La Paz-itively Hot (very pink!)....guess I'm too traditional! Smiles...Susan
