Chopin in the park

I packed a lot into two days in New York City.

It will take a few posts to unpack it, but here are some highlights:

 The train ride from Boston.

Mosaic on a project apartment.

 Chopin in Washington Square Park.

24-hour everything.

 The Museum of Modern Art.

"Do you know who Marilyn Monroe was?"

Views.

 Quiet streets in Brooklyn.

Manhattan cacophony.

Also, dinner, brunch and a long walk with my son; the first brussel sprouts I've ever liked; wandering through the flower district, the button district, the West Village, SoHo, and Brooklyn; one blister; flaming Greek cheese; Chelsea galleries; Cezanne, Matisse, and pumpkin soup with a chicken wing in it.

  2. How odd to see a baby-grand outdoors like that. I've also always wanted to explore Brooklyn, not only for the old architecture but also the Brooklyn Museum of Art.

    1. It was, indeed odd but also wonderful--like a scene from a movie. The Brooklyn Museum gets very good shows, but is overshadowed by Manhattan. I lived in Brooklyn for 7 years and am very fond of it. My son lives there now, so it's nice to have an excuse to return.

  3. "Do you know who Marilyn Monroe was?" I am still laughing with this one!
I am glad you had a good time in NY Jen : )

  4. The button district is so much fun, hard to describe or imagine but it's just fascinating. Looks like you had a grand ole time...and the weather was very cooperative no? Did you wave? ...Oh, and I'm as flabbergasted as Demie, you have to ask if they know who Marilyn Monroe was, now we've gone too far!

    1. Everyone should skip Times Square and go straight to the button district.

  6. Delightful. The way my laptop was tipped, the photo taken in the Museum of Modern Art put in silhouette the persons standing and looking at the art (tip your laptop, Jen, to get that effect and see if you like it.) Your photos are coffee table book beautiful. Why are there still leaves on the trees after the hurricane?

    1. The leaves looked strange to me too, but I thought that was because ours in New England are long gone.

  8. Washington Square Park in autumn colour and with a Chopin! Thank you for introducing many unusual scenes in New York.
My youngest son went there when winter time and the ticket was quite reasonable. He enjoyed some theatres because outside was so cold.

  11. As a Californian, I'd always had a scewed vision of New York until I went there. My dream would be to live there for a year and get know all the neighborhoods and try to know the city as well as I know Boston or Los Angeles. Alas, that won't happen, but I'll visit often and be amazed and fall in love every time.

  12. Can anyone play the piano in the park? He looks like an ordinary backpacker and is just enjoying playing. I'm wondering if the piano is always there.
