Tomorrow I'm off  for a few days in New York, and am looking forward to the intoxication of that mad and beautiful city. New York was the inspiration for so many great movies--I've put some of my favorites above. Do you have a favorite New York movie?

I will leave my computer at home but will take camera and notebook and try to capture some New York minutes. Hope you have a lovely weekend.

  2. Hannah and her Sisters. The World of Henry Orient. when Harry Met Sally. Love With the Proper Stranger. But I can watch Moonstruck again and again.

    1. Hannah is more NY (for a sense of place) than Annie Hall. Recently rewatched Moonstruck--so great. How did I forget Harry/Sally! Haven't seen the other 2--will look for them.

  3. I can't recall any other New York movies, but for reading, how about Edith Wharton's Old New York, or Clarence Day Jr.'s Life with Father--not the movie version, which was abysmal, but the book(s) are great!

    1. I started to do books and movies in my post, but there were so many of both! I've read The Age of Innocence, but not Old New York--will pick it up. I also haven't read Life With Father. Thanks for the recommendations!

  4. Jen.. how wonderful.. what a treat! I have to add one of my movie favorites... Barefoot in the Park. I fell in love with Robert Redford and New York at the same time! Also, I never tire of watching Moonstruck... love the scene with Cher walking down the neighborhood street in the early morning hours. Of course I have to mention my real introduction to New York City via television.. That Girl! Ann Marie (Marlo Thomas) was the quentessential "single girl in the city"... 1960s style! Safe travels.. we look forward to you sharing your adventure with us!

    1. It's crazy how many of them do. The whole sense of place thing is very interesting to me. Sometime I'll do a post on movies in other places.

  10. I don't think I have seen "Moonstruck" but some comments here got me interested in it. As for music, a friend of mine is a faithful fan of Billy Joel so I became familiar with his song "New York state of mind" and another one is "fairytale of New York" by the Pogues. Enjoy your stay in New York!
