Little Bear
I had pets my entire life until about two years ago. My two indoor/outdoor cats disappeared, probably captured by fishers or foxes according to our town animal control officer.
Then my dog died of kidney failure--a side effect of lyme disease that I didn't know she had. For the first time, I doubted my ability to take care of my pets, and, to be honest, enjoyed the lack of responsibility.
But it wasn't long before we adopted Aji and Masa (my first indoor cats) and I'm so glad we did.
Enjoy your week--
Jen
Jen, what a (true) blonde beauty. And those are some pretty handsome pets also. McTavish is ginornomous!
ReplyDeleteOh I wish I can indoors cats. Keeps the grey away.
Thanks for letting us in a little deeper.

Ha--I was a ragamuffin.
DeleteI wish I could let my cats have the joy of outside, but I'm too fearful now. And they are surprisingly content.
Ooooh what pretty blond hair on an equally pretty head. McTavish looks just like my Irish Setter Rusty from my teenage years.
ReplyDeleteYou don't see many Irish Setters these days. I wonder why not.
DeleteWhat a pretty little girl you were. Childhood pets keep a special place in our hearts don't they ... M x
ReplyDeleteOh, they do.
DeleteI love this retrospective :) and what adorable furry creatures! Animals always touch such a special place in our hearts don't they?
ReplyDeleteThey do indeed.
DeleteSuch lovely photo's Jen! I enjoyed seeing you as a child. Such a beautiful girl you were and such sweet looking pets.
ReplyDeleteHappy week!
Madelief x
Thanks, Madelief. Happy week to you too!
DeleteHi Jen, I just feel a house isnt a home without a puss cat in it (or a dog for dog people!). I have always had pets too, mostly cats and birds, not at the same time though for obvious reasons!
ReplyDeleteI've never had birds--I love looking at them in the pet stores.
DeleteWonderful pets! I think they are so good for children - to grow up with a sense of responsibility for something other than ourselves. Glad you got "new" ones!
ReplyDeleteWe didn't have any neighbors close by when I was young, and the pets were my friends.
DeleteLittle Bear looks a bit like Addie! That skirt is a real winner - pretty girl( and pretty grown up girl).
ReplyDeleteHow my husband would love a dog like McTavish.
I made the skirt, of course--made all my clothes in high school. And now I can't remember the last time I touched a sewing machine.
DeleteLooks like you started a run on cat posts Jen, or did someone have a theme thing going? Regardless, they are just such perfect beings. These pictures of you and your pets are precious. I was looking at pics of cats on the local adoption site and there was one of this 7 yr old cat that had such a contrast in light and dark on his face. Kind of like a calico but it was strange to see such symmetry in colors.
ReplyDeleteThe cat posts started after we adopted them a little over a year ago. They practically write themselves!
DeleteJen... Your handsome McTavish reminds me of our lovely Rosie from many years ago. I had just remarked the other day that I never see or hear of Irish Setters anymore. Such nice memories and such a pretty girl!
ReplyDeleteYou rarely see German Shepherds anymore either. We had a great dog who was half Shepherd, half Golden Retriever.
DeleteWhat wonderful photos of those special friends. Our pets are most definitely our best buddies.
ReplyDeleteNo wonder people are always writing memoirs about their pets--dogs especially.
DeleteYou were darling. Have you gone back to being a blonde? It would look natural on you. The dogs must have been wonderful friends. The cat looks like our erstwhile Nikki. Thanks for sharing a bit of your childhood.
ReplyDeleteHighlights. Hairdresser magic.
DeletePets were such an important part of my childhood.
Love the skirt & pets :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Alicia.
Deleteoh, your cats are beautiful. I'm a cat person through and through. lovely pics xoxo
ReplyDeleteI was never a tortoiseshell fan until I got these two.
DeleteBeautiful cats. I love that quote about how part of our soul doesn't develop until we love an animal. I believe it. Enjoy Aji and Masa. ♥
ReplyDeleteLovely quote. Thank you.
DeleteCouldn't imagine life without pets!
ReplyDeleteI love to see children with pets - yes, I know it's always the adults who do the less appealing stuff like feeding, cleaning, walking, but there's something about the mutual trust and joy in the pet-child relationship that shines out of them both, even if said pet is being squashed a little, or sat on!
