houses, Barrio Viejo, Tucson

Ten days back in the cool sensible northeast, and it's just a memory--brilliant heat and colors, the strangeness of cactus, the proliferation of taquerias. The sense of space--I could drive north into the Navajo Nation, the Grand Canyon, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana; or east into New Mexico and Texas--big open places that make New England seem charming and quaint, which is not a bad thing, just different.

  1. I love the simplicity and color of these Southwest homes . I loved the wide open space when we lived in Colorado and the Rocky mountains . Now I love the New England charm and visiting the Catskill Mountains ! I love most places I visit.
Glad you are enjoyed your trip !

  5. Jen,
I would love to live in a neighborhood with colors like those. I would have so much fun painting my own house!

    1. Not quite as deep plum as yours, I think, but beautiful, and I love the porch. Did you see all the doorknobs on # 2?

beautiful colors on those homes. Have to say, I'm not much of a desert person. Have visited but could never live there. New England, different story! Visited my niece at Dartmouth in Hanover New Hampshire last fall and fell in love! It was like a movie, gorgeous! Also made it to Woodstock, VT, loved it all, could live there in a heartbeat!

    1. Dartmouth and Woodstock are so quintessential New England. I couldn't live in the desert either, but I love the contrast.

  10. A purple and a pink house? That's so cool! These big and open places are indeed charming, quaint, and unique. If you're fond of bright colors, large spaces, and brilliant heat, New Mexico and Texas are the best places for you. Well, I might schedule a visit just to see these cute houses with my own eyes. :)
