flower power?

Patriot's Day, the day of the Boston Marathon, is a holiday in Massachusetts. It's a family and friends day when you bring your lawn chair and heaps of orange slices down to Main Street, cheer the runners and pass them juicy refreshing citrus. I wrote about it here last year.

It's particularly cruel (and surely intentional) that so many of this year's victims have had legs and feet amputated, and such a terrible juxtaposition to a joyful day.

I titled last year's post flowers make everything better. Not  everything, I say today. And yet, when someone is hospitalized, our first impulse is to send flowers.

Flowers don't make it everything better, but maybe they help, in some tiny but essential way.

xo,

Jen

  1. Great post Jen. Flowers pop up in the least hospitable places sometimes. Even amongst the ugliness, sometimes beauty prevails.

  2. Hello Jen, I just looked at your last year's post, which makes this year's event all the more poignant. The degree of community spirit and helpfulness is manifest in those pictures. No vicious attack can make any point against these celebrants, only against the sick minds of the perpetrators.

  3. Hello Jen, I cannot imagine a life without flowers. I am sure they help a lot, and yours are lovely. It must be very sad for you to be so close to such a tragedy, it has shocked the world.
Thank you for your visit, I wish you well, love Linda x

  4. You have been on my mind....it was good to see your post. Flowers are a sign of beauty and hope....they may not make anything "better", but they bring joy and comfort. Those are pretty important. Take care!

  5. I'm so sorry about the incident that terrified and hurt many people on the joyful day. I almost lost my words when I heard the news.
I'd like to send some flowers from far East and from the bottom of my heart.

  7. We are shocked also over here! A peaceful event and then such a horrible, mean act! You are right flowers can soothe a pain... at least a little! Christa

  8. Cravecute is so right Jen - and your photo says a thousand words. Beauty will prevail. Such an abhorrent act of violence. We are all thinking of you over here too. My girls both have infinity for Boston signs on their wrists. Stay strong.

  10. Sorry for my belated visit. How terrible it was! Boston Marathon may not be the same next year but I sincerely wish the country and people will resume your festive event without yielding to terror.
It seems the cat offers a silent prayer for the victims.
