Summer country weekends have a comforting sameness.
I check on the frogs, go wading, spend long periods of time looking
at rocks, water, moss, ferns and wildflowers, and whatever else
comes my way. Tiny lizards, lichen, wild turkeys,
a great heron.
There are friends to visit, jaunts to galleries, used books stores,
favorite places and events. The county fair! The cauliflower festival!
Of course there are chores and a house to maintain,
but I always opt for r&r&r
relaxation, refreshment, recreation, because otherwise
what is the point of a four-hour drive to a country house?
Here is something new and green, growing out of the trunk
of a fallen tree.
I'm starting a new blog, focussing on art and books, painting and writing.
Word is that people are reading fewer blogs these days,
but there are places I want to explore, to go narrower and deeper than I do here.
I expect to continue to post here once a week or so.
No sudden moves.
The new blog is Orchards in Space.
xo, Jen
Jen...your tree trunk is sprouting new life...just like you and your new blog! Your photos of the country are always so cool and calming ...filled with life! Your 4 hour drive is worth the trip...thanks for sharing a bit of your mountain neighborhood! Stay cool...Susan
ReplyDeleteThanks, Susan. I hope you are having a great summer.
DeleteI don't think people read fewer blogs. I think there are simply more things to read and we spread attention differently. I for one am looking forward to your new blog. love, love, love books :)
ReplyDeleteMe too. I could talk about books all day long.
DeleteOh, Jen...I am thrilled with this! It's going to be a spectacular.
ReplyDeleteI do read fewer blogs now and I choose them carefully. Some I treat as magazines, just browsing through occasionally to see pretty pictures. The ones I feel a connection with, for whatever reason, are saved and read as if I had just picked up my favorite novel.
Hope you are enjoying the summer at your country home..it sounds lovely there. xo
Oh Sarah, it can be overwhelming. So many choices! I'm glad we found each other. I always savor your posts.
DeleteOh Jen,
ReplyDeleteI so want to hear about the Cauliflower Festival! Please do post, :-)
We will now be treated to a double dose of Jen; can't imagine anything better than that and will plan to follow both. Good luck!

this week, Denver
Eek, Diane--you are so kind, but it's just me, noodling around… There used to be lots of dairy and cauliflower farms in our neck of the Catskills. The soil is mostly rock, so I guess cauliflowers aren't picky. Will take pictures next time.
DeleteHello Jen, I agree with your thoughts about starting a new blog now, but yours will be good because of your unique voice and experience. (And anyway the blogs I like don't have as their main goal attracting huge numbers of readers.)
ReplyDelete--Jim
Thanks, Jim that means a lot to me. I think the only reason to write a blog is because you enjoy it and feel the need to create something. This blog has become a place of happiness for me, especially because of the people I've met here. I expect the new one will be a more focussed and edgier, but we'll see…
DeleteThe cauliflower festival! Off to see your new space...
ReplyDeleteOh, I see I'm going to have to make the cauliflower festival this year!
DeleteI will, of course, visit your new blog which I am sure will have some familiarity...after all your voice is your voice...yet a little different :) Will always come back here though.
ReplyDeleteYou are a big part of my life here, my friend.
