You were right. Spring arrived.
Ten days ago I only had a few scilla and andromeda flowers.
Now there are cherry blossoms, viburnum,
and lilacs (not pictured).
(and a day of unexplainable blurry photos)
lilies of the valley
violets
azaleas
dandelions,
and rabbits.
Inside, an elegant orchid from my sons,
and a new season of painting.
I'm savoring the long light-filled days, bird songs and blossoms,
and dreaming of touring English gardens. This book,
A Natural History of English Gardening looks amazing.
I hope that you are enjoying spring,
or fall, if you are on the other side of the world,
that there is light and beauty in your days.
xo, Jennifer
(Because that's who I really am--Jen was a phase brought about by the desire
for a shorter email address. I can't live up to the perkiness it implies.)
Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteyour flowers are beautiful, so glad gloomy winter is over and spring is finally here!
Rebecca
Thanks, Rebecca. Hope you are enjoying spring!
DeleteHello Jennifer, Your life seems to have plenty of variety and interest, even without a jaunty nickname. My email was picked for a similar reason--'clavicytherium' is not short, but it is a single word with no weird internal punctuation.
ReplyDeleteI love the new painting. The agreeable color palette reminds me of something, but I can't quite place it at the moment.
--Jim
I think that "clavicytherium" is a direct challenge to the spellcheck goblin!
DeleteThank you so much for our kind words about the painting. I'm happy with it too!
Hello Jennifer !! I love your beautiful flowers ! The first photo is so gorgeous :))
ReplyDeleteGreetings
Thank you so much, Ela!
DeleteJennifer! I know, suddenly whoosh and there they were. Now my lilacs are fading fast and the dogwoods are turning green, it's a little while til' the next bloomers. Maybe I'll drive North! I know what you mean about the name; in junior high someone said "Amelia is an old lady's name, from now on it's Amy" and it was, for years and years and years. Until one day, I thought, I'm not 3 Amelia is my Mom's name and the one she gave me. It's been an education to some people Jennifer! Love the painting!
ReplyDeleteMy cherries are fading, but the lilacs are strong. It's like flower dominoes across the map. When I was a child one of my best friends was an Amelia/Amy. I think it's a lovely name and not common. I'm glad you like the painting!
DeleteI like the first photo, Jennifer. Impressionistic. A different style in your painting, I see. Did you daffodils ever bloom?
ReplyDeleteI like it too. One day all the pictures from my phone were gauzy. Most of them though, were too much so. I had to exchange the phone anyway, because something else way broken. Maybe I'll try that effect intentionally.
DeleteNo daffodils, but I haven't done my due diligence on why.
What a beautiful post and wish for us. May there be light and beauty in your days. Wonderful and I will think of that as a blessing every day, perhaps adding "music," too. Your painting is stunning, Jennifer; thank you for posting it.
ReplyDeletePeace,
Diane in Denver
I'd have to add books, Diane! Thank you for our kind words.
DeleteI'm so happy spring finally made it to your part of the world. I'm a whole different person ever since the weather got better and I simply assume it's the same for everyone. and I love the way your paintings are developing. this one is stunning!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Petra!
Deletepretty :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteMissed this, how? Blurry photos understandable, even the camera is stunned by the onslaught of spring.
ReplyDeleteIt's finally peony season here, unfortunately hand in hand with spring storm season. Current mood: shattered.

Amazing how fragile those big flowers are. Hope you were able to save them.
DeleteGood stuff! And...Jennifer, not Jen. I had no idea. I feel I've been introduced to a new person. Hello there.
ReplyDeleteHello! I might have passed for a Jenny occasionally, but I was never a Jen IRL.
DeletePhotos are great, all these flowers are so beautiful and your orchid is amazing, it's colour is so lovely.
