a city weekend

Transitions. Two intense days in Brooklyn, last week, helping
my youngest finalize his apartment search.
We ate Polish food (and Brazilian and donuts and pizza) walked along the East River,
investigated the neighborhood (Greenpoint) hung out with my oldest, who also lives in Brooklyn,
walked to Williamsburg, drank beer (well, they did) ate ice cream, and
found a small but charming fourth floor walkup on a street where on summer evenings
the neighbors set up their card tables on the sidewalk and play dominos.

Friends, why was I thinking two blogs was a good idea?
(especially when I'm on Instagram regularly)
Because I'm a Gemini?
Anyway…
Maybe I should just put it all here.
Even though I'm more of an Orchards in Space person these days
than a Country Weekend person, this is home for me, in the blog world.
And if I write about some crazy thing that doesn't interest you, you can just skip on past it.
I'll do something with the other space--I'm sure inspiration will come to me,
but I'm not going to divide myself up between here and there…
I am changing to a fresher template. Bear with me, please.
(and if you have any problems with it, leave a note in the comments
or email me: jen (at) country weekend [dot} net

  1. One space sounds good to me.
How nice it is to have kids living in Brooklyn! The neighborhood sounds pretty perfect. Is that his building, second from the top? The link is broken on the first picture for me.

    1. Hi Rubye Jack--I lived in Brooklyn and loved it. Sometimes I wish I never left. Maybe I'll return one day. Yes, he's on the top floor of the red building. Don't know what's up with the picture--I took it out and put it back. How are you? You've been quiet.

    2. I see the picture fine now. There is just something about cities - the energy, the sounds, the pace that make me feel more alive. Of course, I would love a full moon night listening to the crickets and enjoying the solitude but still, I prefer the city.
I'm fine. Thank you for asking.

    3. If forced to choose between city and country I would choose city too. xo

  2. Whatever you want to do. Since you are a Gemini, show us both sides of your personality in one place. It's appropriate. Just watched the documentary "Tim's Vermeer" on Netflix and thought you might like it, too. Highly recommended, even though you're an impressionist and Vermeer was a photographic painter..

  3. Hello Jen, It is very exciting finding and moving into a new apartment in a vital urban area like that. I remember an apartment in New Haven, on a very old street right off one of the main roads. How I loved exploring that old neighborhood!

  5. Ok, it took me a bit to find the comment section....love love love this new blog setup. I think it will suit all you have to say and show very nicely.

I hate to admit that I've never been to Brooklyn, even though my sister has lived there for years now. If they go to any of the bars, they've probably met her....... :)

It sounds like two very wonderful days!

    1. Thanks, Sarah. It does take some getting used to. It's one of the blogger dynamic templates. They are easy to try out, and if you don't like them, switch back.

It was especially fun to get to know a new neighborhood. I love Greenpoint. I lived in Brooklyn of 7 years and never went there. Sounds like you and your sister live in completely different environments, both wonderful in their own ways.

  6. Whenever I think, oh should I write about this, I remember it's my blog and I get to put as much out there as I'm comfortable doing.

No matter how you're feeling, city Jen or country weekend Jen, reader, artist, cat owner, nature lover, they all have a place here.

The many side of Jen is what i love about you.

  8. Brooklyn is a really cool place to live these days. It wasn't at all when I lived there years ago. It must be so fun for you to have 2 children living in the city. I would go visit all the time. I love NYC.
