The frog pond, on its way to becoming a meadow. |
I started this blog as a way to help me stay connected with the store when I wasn't there. I thought that customers would read it. As it turns out, only one customer ever mentioned it to me. Instead, something unexpected happened--I found you. You kept me company through my ups and downs, provided encouragement, support, and friendship. You, the people who comment here regularly, are all around the world--mostly from outside the U.S. (which is sort of interesting). You have entertained me with your own blogs and help me feel connected to a larger world than the one I inhabit. I started the store as a distraction from grief--and it was a lot of fun. The best thing that came from it is the people I met, and friends I made--in "real" life, and here. I tend to be reclusive, and don't make friends easily, so this was a real gift. I deeply appreciate all your kind words and good wishes when I wrote that I had spent my last days in the store (selling--there's still cleanup to do...).
Thank you.
Jen
Hello Jen:
ReplyDeleteIt is through you and 'Country Weekend' that our lives have been truly enriched. You have, perhaps unknowingly, given so much pleasure and interest. It is we who need to thank you.
Thanks, Jane and Lance. I'm so glad we found each other.
DeleteI also think like Jane. Your posts always are full of interest for me, and the ways of thinking of your own. I learned a lot with you. Thank you, Jen.
ReplyDeleteI try to be genuine, and that quality (along with common interests) I find in your blog too, and the others I visit regularly.
DeleteI, too, have enjoyed looking over your shoulder at what pleases you, and have learned a lot. So, thank you.
ReplyDeleteBack at you!
DeleteIt's true, Jen, the companionship and cheerfulness of the blogs is priceless - one creates one's own community of kind people. I hope you are playing happy music as you clean up.
ReplyDeleteHmm... music in the store is something I never wrote about here. You've given me an idea!

ReplyDeleteHaving closed down my own shop many years ago I know how sad/happy/stressful yet relieving it can be. all at the same time.
Blogging is quite a journey isn't it? Glad to have met you along the way.
xo Jane
Oh gosh, I didn't mean to get all these thank you's back from my thank you. Getting a little embarrassed here! You can go about your business now--I'll catch up with you at your place.
ReplyDeletexo,
Jen
Hey..what they said! But...this doesn't mean you're ending this blog, does it????
ReplyDeleteNope! I'll be here.
DeleteFor a minute there I had the same thought as Ashling and thought..oh no! Because I truly feel I've made a friend.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way.
Deleteyou are not closing down the blog, too, are you? sounds almost like a little good bye. we have to thank you. you enrich our lives as much as we hopefully enrich yours :)
ReplyDeletexxx
No, I'm still blogging. I realized after I wrote it that it sounded that way!
DeleteThank you too Jen! It is a blessing to be a friend of yours : )
ReplyDeleteFunny thing I started my blog to learn how to write in Norwegian something more interesting than shopping lists! It turned out, me writing in English and getting to know such wonderful people all around the world ( most of them outside Norway!)
Your post scared me a bit - seemed like you are giving up blogging-
I am glad you'll be around and we'll have the joy of visiting you : )
Ha, I should have titled it Thank you, but not Goodby!
DeleteBlogging is such a surprising and wonderful journey isn't it! The friends that you meet along the way, like yourself, are what make it so rewarding. Try not to be sad about the store...one door closes and another opens....
ReplyDeletei love this post jen. i love how so often we do things for a certain reason or purpose and they have an entirely different outcome than what we expected. i have loved reading about your shop. and making insomniatic (what a word i just made up) plans to come and visit your shop. but i also am excited for you as you move on. i also know the thrill of hearing from our friends here where the socializing is the perfect sort for the reclusive sorts like us. i am so glad to have met you!
